Living for tomorrow is
all about knowing that today's decisions are affecting our "tommorrows" -
our future. It's so easy to just live in the moment and do as we
please, but when we decide to live our lives to please Father God as
Jesus lived, then we'll be constantly asking ourselve these good
questions before we do things: "Does this have eternal value" In other
words, will doing this bring God glory or will it bring someone closer
to Christ? Will this possibly even bring someone to know Christ in
salvation?
Or how about this
question: "Will this bring me closer to God or futher away?" This is
always a good one to ask when you're just not sure what to do. Living for tomorrow is all about walking in the direction of your calling.
God has a specific call and purpose for each of us - we can see that
clearly in His Word. Yet so often we ignore that or we don't even
think about it. We should be asking "God, what is it that you've
gifted me to do for you in life? What is specifically that you created
me for?" Then ask yourself and God "Am I walking in the direction of
that calling? Am I taking the necessary practical steps toward being
that person that God's called me to be?" You may be called to be a
missionary pilot, but if you never go to flight school, guess what,
you'll probably never become a missionary pilot. Andy Stanley says it
like this "Your direction (the steps you're already taking) not your
intentions determine your destination." What's your destination? Yeah,
it's awesome if your "final destination" is heaven, but i'm talking
about this life. What will you be doing and who will you be when
you're 35, 40? If you want to be a great father and husband, you've
got to start taking the necessary steps now to have God help you become
that person. If you want to be a business owner and be succesful in that field and use the finances God supplies for God's Kingdom (becasue expanding the Kingdom DOES require finances) then you have to start taking steps now (and many days in the future) towards reaching that goal. I'm suprised by the # of people I run into that will say "I feel I'm called to be a missionary..." And I'll say "What are doing about that calling?" They'll usually come up with something like this "I'm waiting until I'm done with..." I'm waiting until .... When ..." While they're waiting until all the conditions are right, people who are supposed to hear the gospel are dying without ever hearing it. Now that sounds extreme, but truth of the principle applies. We can't wait until all the circumstances are right to step out in faith and obey God. We must, like Abraham, simply walk in the direction God tells us to and after we've started walking, THEN God may reveal to us our "promised land." Start Living For Tomorrow Today!
